Korean Classes and Lessons Los Angeles

Korean Language Classes Los AngelesPRIVATE KOREAN CLASSES AND LESSONS IN LOS ANGELES

With a Strommen Korean tutor you will speak Korean on the first class. Our Korean Instructors have years of experience. We don’t have thousands of Korean instructors, we only have the very best tutors.

Private Korean Lessons and Tutoring

A private session is more effective, efficient and convenient than enrolling in a group class. Your Strommen teacher will be a perfect fit for your needs and learning style. We equate 10 hours of private classes with a full semester in a traditional college or group class.

Scheduling is convenient (7 days a week, any time of day), and you can start right away. You can easily reschedule, so you will never miss a class and get left behind. In a private class you do the speaking. There are no other students to hide behind or take up all of the teacher’s time. Your teacher will make sure you progress at your pace, rather than the pace of the best (or worst) student in the class. Strommen further enriches your learning experience with free podcasts, videos, online resources, Strommen Language Meetups around LA, group classes, workshops and even annual immersion trips.

Getting started is easy, just fill out our student application or call and we will help choose the best teacher for you. We decide on a specific teacher based on a number of criteria including a professional gut-feeling. We will make sure it is the perfect match. As a student, your Strommen teacher will be highly dedicated to you. Many of our teachers meet at cafes, at their home office, or anywhere you like. We believe it’s fundamentally wrong to really learn a language from a text book, audio CD, or computer program. It’s time to get away from the computer, grab a coffee and meet your Strommen teacher to have a real conversation!

TUTORS

Jun

My name is Jun and I specialize in teaching Korean. I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I lived there until I was ten and then I moved and lived in Cameroon for seven years. Thanks to Cameroon being bilingual, I learned English and French while I was there and after I graduated from High School, I spent the next year travelling to Canada and Eastern parts of the United States. With the growing enthusiasm toward international studies, I earned a bachelors degree in Development Studies from University of California, Berkeley. After I graduated, I joined the AmeriCorps and worked as a volunteer for the UCLA’s education program and then as a youth coordinator for the American Red Cross of Santa Monica. I look forward to sharing my passion for Korean language and culture with you!

Joanne

Hello! My name is Joanne. I have a B.A. from UC San Diego where I majored in Sociology and have over 13 years of experience in the social services field in California. Since the beginning of my career, I have worked closely with the Korean American community and the Korean language has a special place in my heart. I know that speaking and understanding any language is a powerful tool and I have made myself available to help people learn Korean and/or English. Previously, I taught TOEIC classes in South Korea, Korean school classes in Los Angeles and other one on one in person lessons for both children and adults. I like to draw, listen to music, jam out on my piano and watch Korean TV shows on my spare time. The Korean language is fun to learn and perhaps if you join me for the fun journey, maybe you will be able to learn to sing along to some K-pop or watch K-dramas without subtitles!

Michael

Hi my name is Michael, and I am a very experienced English teacher and Mandarin Chinese Instructor. I lived in Ottawa and Montreal, Canada, until I was 23. Upon graduation from Concordia University I moved to Busan, South Korea, to teach EFL. I stayed there for two years, from 1997 to 1999, teaching at a few language schools and a university, while making some lifelong friends. I then moved to Tainan, Taiwan, from 2000 to 2006. I studied Chinese at National Cheng-Kung University, while teaching EFL at various schools, including a high school, where I taught for the last two years. Realizing that I needed to upgrade my skills and qualifications, I decided to come to Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, where I am now earning a Master in TESOL at the University of Southern Queensland. I am also teaching in Study Tours, with groups of students from Korea and Japan, who come and study here for a few weeks to a month.

As for my teaching philosophy, I enjoy monitoring my pupils in their aspirations of learning and engaging in the English language and its culture. It is my aim to ensure that all of my students excel in their academic and personal lives. Now, more than ever, sociolinguistics and communicative language teaching are at the forefront of the syllabus; thus, it is my goal to make sure that my scholars learn proper, academic English, as well as English used in authentic, real-life situations.

Michael learned Mandarin Chinese while living in Tainan, Taiwan in the early 2000s at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) 國立成功大學, usually ranked in the top three in Taiwan.
Michael specializes in speaking and listening, while students can definitely learn reading as well as grammar and sentence structure. Writing is best done in a student's own time.
Michael can teach you the context of the words and Chinese through the cultures of China and Taiwan. Moreover, he can add his own sentences and questions to the lessons in order to make it conversational and fun for you. He can also tailor make the lessons according to your own specific needs.
