Subjects: Serbian, Piano, Translation
Hi! I grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. From an early age I became interested in language and linguistics. I couldn't stop reading and writing poems and short stories, some of which were published in Serbian magazines. Eventually, I chose the path of music. I became a skillful pianist first, then a singer, and with that combination I moved to NYC in 2010 to study to become a vocal coach. Currently I am preparing my dissertation in Collaborative Piano at the University of Maryland while working as a pianist at the LA Opera.
I am familiar with all the main languages of the opera, which I have been studying intensely for many years: German, Italian, French and English as well as some Spanish and Latin. Through my close work with singers I deal with translation and diction of all of those languages almost on a daily basis. Therefore I am familiar with the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). I also finished a one year intense course in technical translation for English language offered by the Association of Scientific and Technical Translators of Serbia. I am passionate about teaching every aspect of Serbian language and I am excited to share with my students Balkan culture that is so colorful and full of life, dance and song.
