Hi everybody. My name is Nicholas and I am a Mandarin Teacher for Strommen. Language Background: I studied Mandarin at St. Olaf College for 4 years and studied abroad in Shanghai studying Mandarin at the East China Normal University. After graduating, I moved to China to improve my language. While in China, I was translating at the Beijing Olympics, hosting TV shows, and teaching English. I had the time of my life and my Mandarin is at a native level in all areas including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Teaching Experience: I have 5 years teaching experience in China, Singapore, and Hong Kong. I taught students ranging in levels from beginner to advanced and ranging in age from children to adults. As a teacher, I create and execute effective and interesting lessons that are reflective of my personality. With each of my students, there has been significant improvement in all areas of the language and most importantly in students' confidence with the language. I think Mandarin is one of the most fun languages to know and it feels good to use the language when I travel to Asia, when I order a tea in LA Chinatown, and when I keep in touch with my Chinese friends.

Hello, my name is Xi. I am from Beijing, China. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English from China Foreign Affairs University. I have been living in Los Angeles for a couple of years now. Prior to coming to this country, I worked as an administrator for an English training company for about five years. I am currently working on my Mathematical Economics degree here in the U.S. I volunteer for my neighborhood church and actively participate in my community’s activities. I have enjoyed working at Strommen as a Mandarin teacher for the past few years. I am excited about teaching Mandarin along with Chinese culture during my sessions. Hi I'm Kris! I began my journey with Mandarin Chinese while working with Chinese immigrants in Dallas, TX, so I empathize with US-based Chinese learners!
It can be hard picking up such a difficult language state-side, but communicating in a language as beautiful and fascinating as Mandarin is a thrill well worth the challenge. After becoming fairly fluent through my own self-immersion efforts, I moved to China, SiChuan, Chengdu where I helped found an English Language Training Center. It was an adventure in not only furthering my language ability, but also immersing myself in Chinese culture, especially business culture.
After the school was up and running, I returned to the US and attended the world-renowned Chinese program of Brigham Young University where I all but achieved a double major in Political Science and Mandarin. Instead, I graduated early to teach full-time in New York City where I concurrently earned an M.Ed. From Hunter College. I have taught at every level from Elementary to University, and many subjects including, but not limited to: ESL, Economics, History, even Theology! I am passionate about teaching and it shows in my classes. In teaching Chinese, I emphasize SOUNDING Chinese! I am committed to making sure that your Chinese tones are correct and that your accent turns heads, opens doors, and conveys the level of respect one would want when doing business with the world's oldest and most storied culture.

I am a native Chinese speaker who grew up in Beijing. Since 2015, I’ve been teaching Mandarin part-time to both children and adults. Languages hold a special place in my heart, I also have been studying French, Latin and Norwegian. As an experienced language learner and teacher, I believe there are no shortcuts, nor the absolute method to master a language. I help each student to come up with the best approach based on their goals, personalities and time; by implementing proven methods such as: comprehensible inputs, transcription technique, traditional study…etc. I emphasize on pronunciation, helping students to produce difficult sounds effectively. Since graduating from college, I've been working in film and TV as a translator and interpreter. Hi my name is Michael, and I am a very experienced English teacher and Mandarin Chinese Instructor. I lived in Ottawa and Montreal, Canada, until I was 23. Upon graduation from Concordia University I moved to Busan, South Korea, to teach EFL. I stayed there for two years, from 1997 to 1999, teaching at a few language schools and a university, while making some lifelong friends. I then moved to Tainan, Taiwan, from 2000 to 2006. I studied Chinese at National Cheng-Kung University, while teaching EFL at various schools, including a high school, where I taught for the last two years. Realizing that I needed to upgrade my skills and qualifications, I decided to come to Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, where I am now earning a Master in TESOL at the University of Southern Queensland. I am also teaching in Study Tours, with groups of students from Korea and Japan, who come and study here for a few weeks to a month.

As for my teaching philosophy, I enjoy monitoring my pupils in their aspirations of learning and engaging in the English language and its culture. It is my aim to ensure that all of my students excel in their academic and personal lives. Now, more than ever, sociolinguistics and communicative language teaching are at the forefront of the syllabus; thus, it is my goal to make sure that my scholars learn proper, academic English, as well as English used in authentic, real-life situations.

Name: Yvonne About: Hello, my name is Yvonne and I'm from Taiwan. I am majoring in Hospitality Management in Taiwan and will be graduating in 2024. Currently studying Korean in Busan, South Korea, and will return to Taiwan in June, 2023. I love learning foreign languages and find it interesting to make friends with local language. I think my strength is being able to teach difficult Chinese pronunciation correctly. Chinese is divided into Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, and I can teach both Chinese. As for my teaching philosophy, I think the most important thing in learning Chinese is pronunciation, so I will teach pronunciation clearly from the beginning. Practice makes perfect, so I will arrange simple homework. My teaching style is flexible, and sometimes I also listen to Chinese songs or watch Chinese videos as teaching materials.
